Journal #2: Chapters 4-7 Perspective of Dill
Man can't wait till I get to Maycomb I need to get there me not being there is tormenting me, when I can meet up with Scout and Jem, 2 more days until I make my journey to Maycomb. On my journey to Maycomb I might my Dad. He is the president of L&N railroad. Then Jem said that I was lying. Then he asked me what game will we play today and I said Tom, Sam, and Dick. Scout said that she doesn’t want to play the game because she doesn’t want to be Tom Rover, I can’t blame we always make her Tom because he loses his memory in the middle of the show and isn’t in the script until the end where he is found in Alaska. Jem and I didn’t want to be them so we made Scout play him; there was no point in quibbling against Jem and me. We went into the front yard I started to stare at the Radley place. I said that I smelled death and Scout said she was going hit me so hard I’m going to be bowlegged. Jem told us to both shut up and then Jem told Scout like she never believed in the Hot Steams. I asked what the Hot Steams where and he said was that they where people who couldn’t get into heaven and they wander around lonesome roads and if you walk through them, when you die you become on of them. After he told me that I’m going to do some evasion of lonesome roads. Then Scout said no to talk to listen to Jem and she said the Cal said that was “Nigger-talk”. Then Jam asked Scout if we were going to play anything and she said how you roll me in the tire. He said you know I’m too big and she said you can push. I said I should be first but she would have it like that to she went first. Scout was unanimous that Jem was going to push her with all his might and strength he had in his body. When she got in he got ready to push her and then he pushed her and then the next thing is she is in the Radley’s yard and we chased her and told her to get out of there and bring the tire but she didn’t and she just ran out of there and Jem had to run over there and retrieve the tire. Then Cal yelled Lemonade time. We all ran to the house and we drank the lemonade. Jem said that he has found a new game and I said what and he said Boo Radley. I said Boo Radley? How? Jem gave us all parts that we can play. Scout was going to be Mrs. Radley; I was going to be Mr. Radley, and Jem was Boo he would be the maligant one. 1 day we were so busing playing the game that we didn’t seeing Atticus was on the sidewalk watching us and he saw Jem cutting the newspaper and then he got mad and said that he will tan Jem if he was tearing up the today’s paper. The next couple of weeks Scout didn’t come to play with Jem and me, Jem and me where becoming closer and Scout left us alone for couple of weeks.

Journal #6: perspective of Judge Talyor
It's the night before the big case and I'm nervous and I’m in sort of a predicament. don’t want to do the case like other cases I don't want to do this like any other case but I'm the only judge here in this town. I woke up and I got dress in my judge robe and headed down to the court house. When I was heading down to the town a lot of people where coming in from all over the town. I have to go get there before it gets crowded. I could tell it is going to be a hot and long day today. When I got there Atticus and Tom they were talking amongst themselves and Mr. Gilmer was there too. When I walk pass them and I said hi and kept walking to the judge chambers. When I got there I look over the papers on the case and I filled my cigar case up. I heard everybody start to come in the courtroom so I got ready to go out. When Heck called me out I walked out. The case started and I just sat there and pulled out one of my cigars and started to chew on it. It was Heck on the stand as the first witness testimony. He said that he was on his way home when he got a call form Bob Ewell that his daughter was raped and that he needed to be their right now. So he went there as fast as he could. When he got there he said that the furniture was everywhere and that Mayella was on the ground with bruises all over her, he also described the injuries and said that she had a black eye on the right side of her face and he also sad that the injuries where mostly on the right side. Then Bob Ewell was a pauper came up on the stand and gave his testimony. He said that he went hunting, and when he got back he look through the window and, he saw Tom with his daughter and he was taking advantage of her, so he ran in the house and scared off Tom. He also said that he ran to Heck, and didn’t call the doctor for his daughter, and Atticus ask if Bob agreed with the injuries that Heck said he said yes, Atticus also asked him if he can read and write he said yes and then Atticus asked him if he can write his name and he did and he is a lefty and Mr. Gilmer asked if he is ambidextrous and Bob said he wasn’t. I was stealthy when I change my cigars.I always indulge with my cigars and how many I go through a day. Then it was Mayella's turn on the stand and she said that she said that she didn't want Atticus to do what her dad did to her, and I scratch my head.I cleared my throat and said that Atticus has no intentions in hurting you. She said her side of the story and she said the Atticus was mocking her, and I said the he wasn't mocking her and I asked her what is the matter with her. I saw that Atticus was asking questions irrelevant to Mr. Gilmer and I saw his game plan. Then Atticus was done questioning and then Tom came up to the stand to tell his side e of the story and then like 30 minutes after he got up some people left from the balcony floor.

Journal #4 Chapter 10-12 Jem's perspective
Atticus is getting old, I can see it in him, he is getting older, and weaker each
day. When he would go to our school he doesn't do the same thing as them like play foot
ball with them. he was much older than our friend's parents, When they had a parent
football game he wouldn't join he would just read the paper. When I would play football
with him, when I went to tackle him he would stop me. He never went hunting or play
poker with the people in the county. He didn't drink or smoke he just read in the
living room. Uncle Jack instructed us in how to use our air rifles. Atticus wasn't
interested in guns. He told me that he rather have me shoot tin cans in the backyards
and he knows I'm going to shoot at birds and he said that i can shoot all the blue
jays i wanted as long as I can hit them, he also told me that it is a sin to kill a
mockingbird. Then Miss Maudie came along and said that my father was right and that
Mockingbirds don't do anything but make music for us. They don't eat people's
gardens, don't nest in corn cribs, All they do is sing their little hearts out for
us. Miss Maudie told us that Atticus was the best checker player in the town.
She said that he can beat anybody on both sides of the river. She also said that he can play the Jew's harp. One Saturday Scout and I went exploring with our air rifles, to see if we can find a squirrel or rabbit. I started to look at something down the road. And Scout asked me what I was looking at and I said a dog yonder, and she said that it was old Tim Johnson. I went to get Cal to look at the dog and she told us to get inside, once inside she called me inside and she asked if I was telling a lie and I said no, She picked up the telephone and said to get Mr. Finch she told then that was old Tim Johnson down the street. Cal shouted down the street that a mad dog's coming. Then Heck and Atticus came in Heck's car. Heck was going to shoot but he didn't, he gave Atticus the gun and said you know I can't shoot. Then he walked in the middle of the street and took of his glasses and shot the dog. Heck said that he would have Zeebo come and get the dog later. One day Scout and I were coming back from town and I just wanted to take that baton that Scout had and hurt Ms. Dubose for calling Atticus all those names. So I took the baton and destroyed her flowers. While I was doing that Scout was screaming and then I came and I grabbed her hair and slapped her across the face and she fell and then I kicked her in the stomach. I waited for my punishment for my actions and then Atticus called me and I walked over to him and he told me to go over to Ms. Dubose's house and see what she wanted and she told me that she wants to read to her for a month so I read to her for a month and one day Atticus came in and said that they were late. We figured out that Ms. Dubose had set the clock back a couple of minutes each day. She died in a couple of weeks. Atticus told us she was a morphine addict and her fits were her drugs.

Journal #3: Chapters 8-9 Uncle Jack Perspective
I've been on this train for hours. When are we going to get to Maycomb? Can't wait to see my niece and nephew, hope Atticus is raising them right. “Maycomb City, Alabama next stop,” the man on the speaker announced. Finally, I’ve been isolated for hours on this dang train. When we pulled in to the train station I saw Scout and Jem with Atticus waiting for me. I wave to them and when I jumped off the train I kissed Atticus on the cheek and I shook hands with Jem and swung Scout up high but not to high and then pulled out the packages and Scout said, “What is in those packages?” and I replied, “None of your business?” Jem said, “How’s Rose Aylmer?” I pulled out some pictures off her and they called her fat and I told them that she was eating all the lose fingers and ears. I heard the most fanatical thing that day, did Scout just swear? I think she did oh no she did I’ll just forget she did. We went to the Finch estate we had some supper, when scout swore again and I wasn’t going to forget about it this time. I told her to meet me in the living room after supper. I spoke to her about the swearing and what people would think of her if she kept it up. I also told her to stop so she can be a proper woman she gets older. Then we put up the tree and started to decorate it. We drove to the Landing and we had dinner and I went to talk to some of the relatives and get acquainted with the new relatives.. When we got there everybody was just settling in and everybody was greeting each other. I started to talk to Alexandra she said that she missed me and haven’t seen me I was adjacent to her. We were debating about how Atticus is raising Jem and Scout. Then Scout came up to me and said that Francis called my brother a “Nigger-lover” and I was furious at that boy and I was going to hurt him until Scout told me not and asked me to bandage her hand and I talked to her for a few minutes and then I talked to my brother but I didn’t mention what Francis said.

Significance: I think this is important because this can lead to something that isn't good, like the bus could get attack, and his pants might fall and he could trip and get caught and then get killed or go back in to the army.
Personal Connection: I had my Game boy color taken away from me and I never saw it again, I gave it to this kid because he said he would fix it and he just took it from me. It was like Ishmael when he got his belt taken away.
Question#1: Did you get anything taken away from you and you never saw it again?

Significance: I think that every kid had to chose something that would affect their lives forever. Ishmael had to do chose and he turned out fine.
Personal Connection: I had to pick something that I wish that I could go back and chose the other thing. Ishmael wish he could go back and not have killed all those people.
Question#2: Did you ever have to chose between something that would change your life?

Quote#1:" My conception of New York City came from rap music." Ishmael,pg.193
Significance: I like that Ishmael thought New York City was the way they say it in music, because at first I thought like that too. Then I saw movies that are like the music visions and so I thought it was the same thing.
Personal Connection: I also thought NYC was the same as Ishmael did, because we listen to the same type of music so we have a good connection.
Question#1: Did you think that NYC was the way rappers talked about in their music?
Quote#2:"After that, we all went out to Times Square every evening."
Significance: I would do this also because I haven't been in a place like before so it is just natural for someone who isn't use to things that are in Time Square.
Personal Connection: I'm mostly going to this when I go on the Washington D.C trip in Spring break. We would be like the same our reactions and curiosity.
Question#2: What would you do if you were Ishmael?

Significance: This is saying that the boys were changed from the war. When the first started to fight in the war they all changed. All the boys have to learn how to not kill and that will be a journey on itself.
Character Judgment: Ishamel is a good kid he would be able to do the things he did in the war, and if he didn't fight in the war.
Question#1: Do you think that the boys would learn to forgive and stop fighting?
Quote#2:" I talked to her mainly about Bob Marley's lyrics and Run D.M.C's too." Ishmael, pg.163
Significance: When Ishmael does this he is reconnecting with his past before the war. The more he does that the more maybe he might get in touch with the past before the war.
Personal Connecetion: I would to my dad about some of the lyrics of Run D.M.C and others old school Hip-Hop. I can connect with Ishmael because we both like the same Hip-Hop.

A Long Way Gone Post #3

" I read Julius Caesar in school," I told him. Ishmael and Lieutenant Jabati pg. 104
Significance: This was good for both guys because they both can relate with each other. Everybody was scared of the Lieutenant, but after this moment the relationship between Ishmael and Lieutenant will change after this. This real change for Ishmael because he has something to relate to from his childhood. This would change for the Lieutenant because he will be able to get close to his soldiers and relate to them more.
Personal Connection: I can connect with this because the teachers at HTM are like this. They are like this because they get to know you better on one to one basis.
Question#1: Do you think that Ishmael and Lieutenant started to talk might change their relationship later in the book?

Since he lost that he can't remember his childhood before the war started, and if he listens to the music maybe he might remember his childhood, maybe it might trigger his memory.

Significance: of this quote is that Saidu had to hear his sisters being raped and his parents being beaten. This is the burden that Saidu has to carry around until he dies.
Character Judgement: Saidu is really a shy and quiet kid and I'm like that sometimes when I'm around new people I don't know like at parties or people's house and I'm quiet outside of school when I'm with my family.
Question#1: What do you think would have happen if Ishmael had gone and seen his parents before the attack?
Quote#2:"They have lost everything that makes them human." Lieutenant Jabati,pg.108
Significance: I agree with the Lieutenant because what the Rebels do aren't even cable for the sickest thug in the world. In order for the Rebels to do the things they do you can't be human to do what they do.

Immigration Museums Reflection.
From Haven to Home:
The purpose of the exhibit was to show what is was like to be Jewish people in early America like how they lived and how they fought their way up the success ladder to be at the top of the success building. The exhibit also shows you how the Jewish people were treated like other races in America especially African-Americans. The Jewish people and African-Americans were like the same in America they were both treated badly and they both rose to get respect and love of many people.
Something I learned at the exhibit is that how hard it was to be a Jewish person in early America and during the World Wars because they were treated worst than they were originally and they were killed because what religion they had and what they look like.
Another thing I learned at the exhibit was what amazing thing Jewish people did to be famous like some played sports for example Harry Greenberg other acted for example: Barabar Streisand, Jerry Seinfield, Barbara Gingold, Harry Truman and some went into politics and other civil rights movements for example Rabbi Abraham Joshua and MLK joined during one march to show that people need to be join and be friends, and others went to open casinos in Las Vegas like the Flamingo.
Children of Immigrants:
The Photo: The picture that struck me was the Miss Philippine Independence Day Queen. I chose this because the Queen seemed sad in the picture and all the people around her sad as well like they are agreeing with the Queen. I chose this picture because it is part of my culture because I’m Filipino and she is Filipino so we connect.
Quote: “If we stayed in Bosnia we would have probably die. Although no one can predict the future just, just imagine a seven year old child wondering if he would be killed the next day or spend the world we call home.” I chose this quote because it reminded me of the book A long way gone in this book it is a memoir of a child solider and I’m pretty sure he was thinking exactly as the person who was said this quote. What spoke to me about this quote was that in other countries it isn’t really safe and people often think that they could die tomorrow or today you know.
Personal Essay: The personal essay that I chose is The Home of the Brave by Mark Sena. I chose this personal essay because the author was from the Philippines and I’m Filipino and this essay showed me more of what you have to go through in the Philippines and why people come form the Philippines to here in America to live. Most of the Filipinos that move, move here because to have a better live for there family, or just to move here to resign here. Mark shows how his family moved from the Philippines to America, and how his life was like after he moved here and what he did to become a successful person in life and in education.

A Long Way Gone Post #1
Quote #1: "In the back of the van were three more dead bodies, two girls and a boy, their blood was all over the seats and ceiling of the van." Ishmael Beah, 12-13
The significance of this quote is what everyone who was in Sierra Leone had to live through during the war with the Rebels and the Sierra Leone Military. This relates to the role that Ishmael Beah he had to see this everyday when he was a rebel fighter. He saw many things that you can't even imagine is possible for example: People being killed, being burned alive, and people being raped.
Question#1: Would you be able to see this everyday: people being killed and burned and chopped up?

The significance of this quote is Ishmael came close to death and his brother could do nothing but watch him get killed until someone fired in a distance which saved Ishmael's life. That moment is like fate is guiding the Ishmael and his brother and friends to stay together. This also relates to the what role did the main character had in their home country, because the rebel soldiers were going to kill the Ishmael and others so that the recruits that were going into the Rebel's army so they would toughen up.
Ishmael in this story is a kid with a really big heart and big imagination and loves hip-hop like me that is how I connect with Ishmael and the hip-hop he likes is old school and I enjoy listening to old school hip-hop. The actions Ishmael has in this memoir is riveting and he is a kind gentle kid who wouldn't hurt a fly.
The significance of this quote is what everyone who was in Sierra Leone had to live through during the war with the Rebels and the Sierra Leone Military. This relates to the role that Ishmael Beah he had to see this everyday when he was a rebel fighter. He saw many things that you can't even imagine is possible for example: People being killed, being burned alive, and people being raped.

Book Review
The Color of Water

I’ve never been to the New York or the South or experience what it was to like to live in the 1930’s-1990’s, the author of The Color of Water makes you feel as you are right there in the south or New York. The Color of Water is about an African-American man and his white mother. The mother's side of the story is how she lived her life through the 1930’s-60. The African-American man a.k.a the author's side of the story is how he lived his life through as an African-American in the 1970's-90's.The plot of this story is how James’ mother lived with 13 half black kids in a society where most white people lived in fear of black people, and her having kids that look black changed how she lived and how people saw her and treated her. Also how she lived her life when she went to school then right after she got home she would go straight to work then go to sleep then do it again the next day.
The theme is don’t always judge the book by its cover and that is what they did to Rachel/Ruth when she would be with her kids. Because her kids look black and she is white, people would stare and they would talk about her. The other theme is live life to the fullest; because you never know if you’ll ever see the person you love or care again. Because Rachel’s first husband left her, and she lost her brother in World War II she went through some difficult times in her life.
The way this novel is written is like a double narrates type of story, where two people are telling the story of their lives. At first the author narrative a chapter and then the mom would narrate a chapter. Then so on.
The Characters in this book are James McBride his mom Ruth McBride Jordan, the brother and sisters and there is one of the main sister Jacqueline or Jack for short, Denis the oldest, Ruth’s parents. These characters are really important to the book. Like James and Ruth McBride are the main characters in this book. Ruth’s parents changed how she grew and how her dad and doctor molested her change the way she sees them and how she fears and hates them. Jack was like another mom to the other kids, and if you had to go run away to somewhere you could run there and stay there for a while. Denis was the oldest who everybody looked up to. He was like the cool kid that everybody wants to be. Denis was like the goal everybody set for and each and every one of Ruth’s kids got to that goal, it like started with Denis and the others just followed him in a way.
In conclusion I give this book 8 out of 10. Because this book isn’t the best book in the world what is, any who, it is a drama, comedy romance, but people under 13 shouldn’t be advised to read it because, it has mature situations in the book and what happens in the book during the times of the author and the mother. There are also language situations in the book as well, with words that people used to reference to African-Americans, without giving it a thought about what they are say to them, but overall the book is fantastic!!

Chapter 13

Ralph was on the boat back to the aboard boat. The naval officer said his name was Waldo. Once aboard the navy boat, Waldo showed where they all where going to sleep. Once Waldo showed Ralph where his room was he went in and just fell asleep. Then he awoke in a daze with the faint booming sound coming in from deep within the ship's bowels. The alert was very loud, Ralph was rubbing his head when he awoke he open his door and saw blood on the wall and Ralph immediately realize what was happening. Jack is on a murderous rampage. When Ralph realized that this was happening he ran to find the nearest naval personal, and every corner he turned he found a dead body on the ground he started to worry about the littluns. The he saw some littluns in the corners with no heads and thought to himself, "what is that." He just kept running in the halls he heard screams coming from a room he open the door a little and saw Jack and Waldo. Jack had Waldo tied up on a chair. He was beating him and Jack asked him, “Where is he?"

"Fine I will stop hitting you." Jack said. Then Jack saw the door close and he grabbed his spear and ran towards the door with spear in hand and was ululating. He hunted the spy. When Jack ran through the corridors he was screaming and grunting with blood thirst in his eyes. He ran all the way outside and when the sun hit his eyes he immediately covered them and snarled and hissed at the sun. He ran all the way to the edge of the boat and saw that they were about to hit the harbor of England. He ran top speed to the room where Waldo was at and guess who he saw Ralph! He immediately through his spear at him. Ralph dodges it but Waldo wasn't so lucky and got it in the chest.
"Aaahh," Waldo screamed with pain in his voice
"Nnnooo, Look at what you have done now! You killed Waldo! You bloody fool have you gone completely batty?"
Ralph starts to cry. Ralph looked at Jack and saw that he was also crying he started to say sorry for all the deaths he caused and then Jack pulled out his knife and plunged it into Ralph's stomach then started to laugh an evil laugh a mad scientist laugh. Jack continues his murderous rampage for 10 years 1,000 people died. When the police went in his house they found him killing someone. The police shoot him with no mercy, they gave him no trail and killed him on sight.

Chapter 3/4: UGH!!!
Ralph's Journal:
"Okay Simon just a little more to the left," I said the hut's roof falls on Simon.
" NO! Not again" I yelled.
Simon sticks his head out and says ,"Sorry."
"It's okay," I say Jack comes out of the forest line. Simon tries to put the roof up again but it falls again, he says sorry again. I told him it was okay. Jack comes out talking the pig "he almost" got
" I wish you would quit it with the pig nonsense!!" I said.
"Sorry I just almost got a pig this time." he said it with blood hunger in his eyes.
He can be blatant sometimes or all the time, hhhmmm I thought to myself.
"Why don't you and your hunters go find some meat or help Simon and I with the huts." I said Jack is like effigy of primitive people. He can get really weird. He is very belligerence when it comes to the hunt. Simon, Piggy, and I went to the bathing pool. I went to jump in the pool when i look into the ocean and see. Is that what I think it is. Yes! Yes! it is I yelled, "Smoke Smoke!" Piggy and Simon look at me with appalled faces. "What is it Ralph?" Piggy asked me several times. Then with out putting on my colt hes I ran to the fire on the mountain. Where is the smoke I don't see the smoke were is the smoke. I wanted to kill Jack and yell out jacks name, but i didn't because i didn't won't to scare the little ones. I ran up the mountain looking for any sign of fire. Then out in the distance you can see a group of people in the distances with looks like a pig. There is chanting something but I can't hear what they're saying. When they got closer you can hear them, "Kill the pig, Cut the throat, Let her bleed!" When Jack and the hunters came up the mountain I look at Jack malevolently, he can tell he just stopped chanting. "What?" he asked me. "The fire is out that's what!" I said there was silence I continued "There was a ship and you let the fire die down we could have been saved!" I yelled Jack said" I needed everybody to get the meat!" The pig was dripping gouts everywhere. Then Jack out of no where hit piggy in the stomach and slapped him in the face and his glasses fell off and one of the glasses fell out. Simon pick up Piggy's glass and gave it to Piggy. Piggy yelled at Jack" That was uncalled for I only have one eye now. I'll get you. You just wait and see!" Jack Started mocking Piggy's whinning noise. Then I said, "I'm going to call a meeting Idon't care if it is in the dark.I'm calling a meeting now!"

chapter1: Bloody noise in the sky
Simon's journal:
I woke up to jack screaming into my ear about some kids bleeding and what knot.
He said," I proffer you Simon to help these kids, the injured ones."
I said, "OK Jack."
I walk and saw all the kids wounds there is arm wounds to head injuries. there is eeffulgence of blood around the crash site. When out of now where came a weird noise from the sky. Jack said, "We should go towards the sound." We all got up and walk towards the sounds. Our cloaks we had hambone frill on it, it weird on touching the frill. We walk through the jungle for about thirty minutes. Every step we took the sound got louder and louder. Then we saw a beach and then we saw a group of boys sitting around a boy blowing what look like a shell of some sort. Then I blacked out. I woke up about 10 minutes later with the boy with the shell. Winning the vote for I think leader of all the boys. There was a fat boy next to him he was pallor. Then Ralph said,"We should look a see if this an island or not." He picked me Jack and himself to explore I was excited, to explore this here place jungle. I took off togs, then we walked on the beach Ralph kept doing head stands. We came up to a mountain of pink rock. We climbed it oh yeah we climbed it. Once we got to the top we saw this boulder and we decide top push it off. It was heavy rock it took us a good solid 5 minutes to push that thing off, when it did go off it was satisfying when it hit the ground. We climbed down we saw a pig jack treid to kill it but he didn't i think he is sacred to kill that pig!! But he won't admit that
